Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Usually it’s a substantial a pay cut…
Read the offer letter - does it say annual base salary of 160k. Or any granular details? Usually these things are pretty clear and if they aren’t I’d clarify in an artful, not pushy way because it’s a solid offer already. But both for tax purposes and really any internal budgeting purposes these things are always detailed. Anyway, something like can see the annual salary of 160 and would like to know if the firm can provide me a signing/moving one-time bonus/moving stipend. Their answer will clarify via logic. Which firm is this for? Also trust it’s not a scam.. just because those too good to be true scenarios can sometimes happen..

EU comparable salaries are very low because they factor in all the fringe benefits. For example, some EU countries have car benefits where the lease payment is mostly paid for.
Thanks for the input
$160k USD in Europe will go much further than your current $140k in the U.S. I’d personally take it if it seems like a stable enough opportunity to do for 2 years at least. Thats once in a lifetime honestly. What country?
Hoping to stay there too
