Can you guys see how much you bill everyday, like some program or something on your computer tells you, 4.5 hrs today or 9 hours today? My firm gives it to us on paper at the end of every month and thats it. Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.

How far in advance do you advise your assistant that you will need them to efile something? I get pushback from my assistant about not giving adequate notice when I tell her in the AM that I will need her to file something in the PM. Okay...here goes: I’m not sure if I just want to leave my firm or private practice altogether? For those of you who have contemplated leaving private practice, how did you finally come to realize that that was really what made sense for you, as opposed to just switching firms?

I’m in my 4th year at a small plaintiffs’ firm. Past two years I’ve received meager raises (5k) and terrible bonuses (3k). My boss prides himself on allowing me to gain experience so I have more courtroom experience than most attorneys with twice the experience. As I’ve applied for other firms, I’ve been denied interviews based on how my boss is perceived in the community. I’ve gathered professional references from opposing attorneys and other attorneys we work with but still can’t land. Help

When you feel like you could be providing better work product and feel like your partner isn’t your biggest fan, what advice would you have?

I have a promising interview at a relatively large law firm in my area (+100 attorneys) next week. The position is for a transactional role in their real estate practice group, and they are seeking someone with at least 2 YOE. I have a bit over 7 YOE with a strong real estate/commercial lit. background. Over the past two years in my current position, I've been doing a lot more transactional work. The split is around 50% transactional and 50% lit.

Wondering if legal tech is legit or all hype

In your experience, what is the best way to effectively and efficiently delegate work to junior attorneys? Or, if you are a junior attorney, what works well when you are on the receiving end?

I've been a government attorney for nearly three years now and have worked in the same office/division since I passed the bar. I've yet to receive a promotion other than two cost of living increases (in sum, a pay increase of 6k over 3 years). I know this is meager, but I'm mostly ok with it, I just want to see some recognition. On the other hand, it's hard for me to imagine negotiating because (given my inexperience), I don't feel I'd be able to do better anywhere else. Any advice?

Just looked up a firm a recruiter told me about. I would be the only Latino on the roster and among the few that didn’t go to an Ivy League or top 20 law school. I don’t even know if I should bother applying...
