Whatever it is, its not in my book.
Side work too. Love seeing what creative thing you do that's not advertising. If it's "nothing", ask yourself if you're in the right business. We like hiring really creative people. Sometimes I hire people just on their personal projects (standup or sketch can show me you'd be good at Tv even if you don't have experience, etc) even if their book isn't the best
^ I was hired at wieden because I designed a skate deck. True story.
The latter - the shitty tasks gives you an insight into the person's personality and will help you understand if it's someone you can depend on / want to be around.
I look for projects where you can tell that they took a boring brief and turned it into something fun or special. I want to see thinking that demonstrates an ability to find better possibilities. I can't stand it when younger creatives expect me to throw a great brief into their lap without expecting to do that kind of thinking on their own.
I got my current job at a huge agency being very good at email and CRM. All you littles need to buck up
Oh shit. CDs in this ... I work in email and as a junior all my briefs are shitty. Wanna take a look and see if I hit that later mark for you?
