Wanted to highlight Prudential Financial’s hiring practices. They rescinded my offer once I attempted to negotiate the salary. The official reason given was that I didn’t “sound excited enough”.
They then admittedly gave the offer to someone who was less qualified. There were other red flags throughout the job offer process that the HR team should overall be ashamed of.

Hi fishes,
I am planning a switch so was going through some salary data for a software engineer. My ex-senior manager recommended me a website: Growceed.com which helped me a lot in getting clarification about a lot of things but I am in doubt whether the average salaries of software engineer mentioned on Growceed.com really that much in top MNC companies.

Any Bengali ladies here? Just curious!
I am currently interviewing at TikTok for the Content Partnerships Lead role. Can anyone share some insight into the salary bands in the Sub-Saharan African market? Should I benchmark with the global rates?
Any tips and experiences interviewing in this region are also welcome - and highly appreciated! :)

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Whenever someone in a business atmosphere says it's all a big family, you can be sure that you're being played. That just means they'll be taking liberties and trying to take advantage of you left and right. Sure you can work nights and weekends, hey, it's for family!

Sounds like a good way to manipulate someone. Sad
I feel like any workplace that says "we're family" immediately gives a red flag. It sounds like code for a lot of things like low pay, long hours, etc.

I feel you are correct. But I don’t know how to respond to it. Just stay quiet?
I think THEY still think it's family, we just have very different definitions of what that means. To me, it's people I love to be around and would do anything for. To them, it's someone you can take full and complete advantage of. Most of my negotiations have taken place before signing an offer, not after, so this mood shift has't been quite as pronounced, though it's still noticeable when the convo shifts to numbers.

That’s understandable since it’s expected that someone will negotiate at the beginning of a job (during the interview). It’s less often someone negotiates in the same position. At least, I’ve never done it.
Yes! It’s those places that are the worst about it. They want to be family as long as you are doing everything for them. Greedy family imo. If a place can’t recognize itself as a transaction in my life, probably best to move on as soon as I can.

It seems harder to find open positions now a days. But you’re right
Yes, and in my case its we are family - but we don’t have the budget for increases this year. Then you find out some people are getting nice increases. They pick and choose who they want to give them too. I guess I’m like a step or adopted child in the family.

That is quite sad when they play favorites.
I often do too. Normally it’s okay with me since I’m not part of the “family” yet but it is a great reminder that jobs shouldn’t be families

Yes it is a good reminder! They’re for themselves.
