Do you want to be white because you see they are given the grace of mediocrity? We’ve all been there at some point. I wish I could tell you it will get better elsewhere. Unless you go high power Plaintiff side, it is really the same, incl. in firms of color. So: get your skills despite what they say and do. This place is but a stepping stone to the next thing.
Keep going. You got this.
As a slightly more represented minority (asian), I get the feeling too. My technical skills are assumed while other white colleagues get by with mediocrity without repercussion. The number of times I've heard "I don't know, it's too complicated for me to understand" be an acceptable response by white associates but not for me is insane.
Plus, any minor error or shortcoming is amplified for me and I'm reminded of them during every review even years later. Not to mention the more senior you get, the fewer minorities are left.
I use the term in the mathematical sense - Asians are a significant minority of the senior associate and partnership ranks of pretty much every firm. And that minority is significantly underrepresented when compared to the overall US population, Asians in law school, and incoming Asian associates.
Identifying that fact doesn't mean I am implying that I am somehow less-than. If anything, it implies the systematic racism that is pervasive throughout our boomer white-male dominated industry.
