From behind the Business Insider paywall:

According to a Weber Shandwick employee, the firm's consumer team, which handles packaged goods and travel clients, was particularly affected across multiple offices.Parent company IPG has made cuts in recent weeks. Weber Shandwick, part of ad holding company IPG and the world's second-largest PR firm by revenue, began making furloughs and staff cuts this week. Public relations has been less affected by the coronavirus pandemic than other marketing and communications services, but the firm's major clients like Royal Caribbean and AB InBev have cut spending. Weber Shandwick employs between 4,000 and 5,000 people globally. It's unclear how many were affected by the cost cuts. According to a Weber Shandwick employee who is known to Business Insider but requested anonymity in the interest of job security, the firm's consumer team serving packaged goods, travel, and hospitality clients was hit particularly hard across multiple offices. The employee also said at least one senior-level executive on the firm's corporate team was laid off last week. CEO Gail Heimann sent a memo to staff today that is reprinted in full below. Employees began receiving furlough and layoff notices today. Weber Shandwick's human resources department began holding video conference calls with people today to tell them how their jobs would be affected. They were then sent materials like an official status letter and a summary of benefits.

Same at Weber. IPG-wide?

globally

We had one in our office, anyone know how many in theirs?

One Golin director in Dallas. Not sure on the other offices

I heard recruitment, which makes sense since it's a hiring freeze too

Why is this Pinned?

helpful

Example: H&K laid off 15 percent of staff across agency. Should that be pinned?

Do you know which offices?

global

To my understanding there were 3. Supposedly this is IPG wide

What level at Golin?

Director, as far as I know

like

Golin let go 16 people go across the agency. Not sure why this is pinned either. Some good people and some are my friends but it could have been much worse. What happened at Weber?

Is anyone working somewhere with a hiring freeze right now? I started this job about 6 months ago and I'm worried I'll be the first one out now that they're officially pausing. Should I be looking for another job, and how much will this affect my resume if I get laid off?

I was part of the tech layoffs over the past couple of weeks. I have an opportunity to go back in house or back to a law firm. Both are great opportunities and comparable comp. Pro of law firm - stability (less likely to be laid off). Pro of in house - no billable hours. Should I ride out the recession at a law firm until things settle down or take the risk and go back to in house?

Hi everyone,

I was affected by layoffs about a month ago and urgently looking for a good immigration lawyer. The lawyer should be experienced in handling this 60 day grace period situation and developing alternate strategies - such as change of status to B1/B2 or applying to jobs from India. There is a lot of noise and wrong information going in the market so looking for good recommendations.

I have very little time left for my grace period to end and need a consultation soon. Thanks

I have 3+ professional experience with product marketing, digital marketing, and event management. Im on the hunt for a new job and am fairly new to this lovely city. If you know of anyone looking for marketing specialists or would like to network let me know. Id love to connect!

Any idea on what's the outlook for SAP projects in the next year?

My spouse was laid off recently and recently interviewed for her dream job at a large tech co. They told her that it could be a few months before the budget opens up but that they really like her. She just interviewed for another job that likes her a lot but she doesn’t love. She’s considering taking the role as a bridge to other role opens up. I think it’s better for her to wait it out. Anyone else have any thoughts of taking a job for only a few months?

How is your agency managing the war for talent these days in terms of retention? I’m a little at odds with mine where we seem to be giving promotions and higher pay to any and everyone who gets an offer elsewhere.
