Thumb rule - Don’t quit before you get the next job. Study on weekends.
It is much easier to get a job when you have a job. If you leave without having the next one lined up, you will have to explain why, and your judgement may be called into question, even though you made a legitimate personal choice.
You lose all negotiating power when you don’t have a job
Take leave
Maybe good or bad depending on whether quitting will create stress to deliver during that interview. Some of us fail solely because we have all eggs in one basket and it's a do or die situation. Some of us also take that challenge well and deliver peak performance during the interview. I am someone who does very well when I've prepared well, so I go all in on researching for the interview. If this means I need a break or quit what I have, so be it. I know a lot of people will consider this a risky move, but if that job is truly what you want, do whatever it takes (prep wise) to get it
hmmm... i committed to doing it Monday... project is very heavy.... how much negotiating power do i really lose?

Tomorrow is my 2nd phone screen, and we'll see after that if I make it...

Can you ask for an internal role?
It depends whether you have the interview lined up yet or not
Also depends on your network at Google. I've been job hunting since late September. Had a couple of first rounds at Google that initially didn't pan out. Finally received an offer for a role where I started the interview process back in December. The process can be lengthy...
Mine is for a stratops role where a fair amount of my consulting work aligns to the role. So I consider my quite fortunate and can see why I didn't advance farther with my other interviews...
