It’s doing what thousands of creators do but for brands - making tactical vertical videos based on trends and promotions without a big 360 idea

Thanks
A huge brand's HR reached out to me for the role of "Content Creator" and she said the brand is looking for a cw from agency side who has experience with fashion/luxury.
So I was like sure sign me up. Name of the role is odd for the req but okay.
Cut to the interview. The hiring manager tells me it's about thinking of campaigns, content, making reels (shooting/acting) and all that jazz.
I said bro can do the first two. Not the last bit. Dude was like k bye. so yeah

So are we in agreement that some of the creative jobs (art and copy) have been repurposed as Content Creators? And that’s just one of many reasons there are fewer gigs for us?
The role can start as “taking social off the plate”. However, after a while it often turns out that “the social stuff” is mostly what’s on the plate!!
It’s the new entry-level job. It’s designed for TikTokers who have aged out of high school and college-era work and are looking for more security (steady paycheck; insurance). It’s not designed as a longterm role, and there’s a lot of turnover because no content creator wants to spend years of their life making and remaking vertical videos about makeup or cheeseburgers or automotive tires over and over and over again.

Content creation is only getting more and more and more creative. I believe you are mistaken with this take.
I just had an interview that I didn’t land for a Sr CC position paying $160/hr converting to $170k for full time. They were looking for someone to repurpose assets into social posts by concepting, editing, and writing. And eventually be more of an AD/editor/writer role but not expected to shoot anything.
Brand. But that was also 27 weeks ago haha.
The role is a bit of a moving target actually.
It all depends on what skills you’re willing to bring to it. Organic social, filming with cameras/lighting, going from concept to execution to final deliverable….If you’re able to add any zest to it via editing and animation, go for it and you’ll be part of even more than TikToks. Graduate to attending larger productions and case studies, maybe even some awards for your book if you’re so lucky.
While we are expected to operate mostly autonomously with a brief, some of the best work happens with collaboration. People who aren’t involved in the day-to-day think eliminating creatives is the answer. Why get rid of the people who have insight to the brand/client, all to potentially lose the business? Odd.

Just another attempt to quantify the unquantifiable - creativity.
And therefore pay less for it.
@op you’re proving the point every client who uses a creator is making.

Ugh. What if I want to keep pretending it’s not real?😭
This seems important to understand.
