Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is most of PE hiring is done via recruiting at the start of an IB analyst's career and it's from the recruiters reaching out themselves to analysts at BBs/EBs (for larger PE places).

Does this mean if an analyst starts their career at in boutique or smaller MM IB, even if they manage to lateral to a BB/EB, they have essentially no chance at say ending up at an MF because it's too late?

Service design seems a popular role in consulting in the past year or so, certainly seeing more grads go down this route. Is there much overlap with business analysis? When I’ve worked with service designers the output seems to be another version of a process map, are there other skills and experience needed? One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
