Currently a first year B4 associate, looking to break into PE, probably PE Ops given consulting experience to make more money and I generally am more aligned/attracted to finance. Is it a viable option and if yes, how much exp should I get in consulting before I start to look for a jump/move?

Depending on what consulting you’re doing now, jump sooner than later. Most mgmt. consultants only fix decks and not actual work ~1.5-2yrs

I got reached out to for PE ops 2y post b4 consulting and I was rejected in the process. Offer candidate was like 3-4yoe I believe

What group and what B4

Financial services and KPMG

PE ops may not necessarily involve much finance, and it might not pay better either, depending on how much you make in consulting and the type of PE company. If you care about money and finance, consider trying to break into investment banking and then PE deal team

I’ve been given this perspective before and I agree but I’ve also been told that management consulting to IB is harder compared to a deal advisory associate trying to move into IB. What are your thoughts on that? Also, if I do decide to move into IB when is the right time to make the jump? Was thinking a year in consulting.

Hi all! I’m very interested in working in restructuring and was wondering what is the best way to break into this field? I understand having modeling experiences is crucial, but was thinking if trying to seek out skillsets in Valuation first would be better before trying to pursue this route. Any advice would be great and TIA!
