Need help deciding if this offer is worth moving for. Received an offer from Booz Allen Hamilton for an Associate level Sr. Systems Engineer in Los Angeles for $135k base. I countered $150k and a $15k singing bonus and asked if I could be brought on as a lead associate since I've been a lead/manager for a while in my current company.
Current company TC: $125k in Utah.
YOE: 7 with M.S. and MBA
Is the switching cost/risk and higher COL worth it?

Dont do it. Wait and something else will land better. This is significant pay cut for a job that you may or may not enjoy
The stocks vest 20% annually. Each year I would get a 22k stock grant (which could go up if I get promoted), after the fifth year I’d have a cascading realized 22k+whatever stock appreciation may happen (or go down potentially)
If you think you have strong skill sets then you may want to wait because once you take a pay cut you don’t know how long it will take to get back. You are gong backwards. If you think this is the best you can get then take it.
Industry always does not pay lower as fyi, it depends on your exit opportunity.
I will advise to put pen to the paper and put pros and cons for selecting the new offer. $$$ should not be sole determinant unless you need to sustain your life style. Might be tough to let go $20k but on the flip side you are moving to industry and exploring the new possibilities. If industry does not work well, you can always switch back to consulting. Giving up 20k is mainly for short run, you have life to recover that. make decisions thinking you are on death bad. Would you regret by not taking this offer and exploring new possibilities. Make this decision when you are fresh in the morning when you are relaxed and not under any stress. Hope that helps
Leave consulting
DO MORE RESEARCH. Understand the culture, how people get promoted, turnover, etc. Things are constantly changing in the workplace. At Slalom are you staffed or on the bench. I was told there's a bench timeline now so if you are on the bench, about to be, or cannot truly find a good next project, and not getting market traction for an alternative role then you know what to do. Otherwise, I think you should counter the salary or keep looking for something else because you are risking not only a pay cut but also not liking the work, a bad boss, pidgeonholing, etc.
Do what you feel is right for yourself. Nobody on this app knows better than you do. I can tell you want to take the offer so just be confident and make the decision, it will work out in the end.
Slalom is about to have explosive growth. I am waiting it out.
At a senior enough level to understand what the plan is. If you are positioned correctly, there will be lots of opportunities. The changes being made now are in an effort to double rev in 5 years.
I had 70k to be vested in 3 years! Got laid off 2 weeks before my vesting period! Lesson learned: don’t give a shit about stock grant (p.s: please don’t quote NVIDIA example)
Industry pays less
My 2 cents for what they are worth... I hear 2nd - 3rd hand that Slalom is moving away from its local model, and at some point will want consultants to consider traveling across markets. If that is true, consider work travel in your decision. Slalom like most Consulting cos had to let go people, but bench remains an issue in some areas. So that is definitely another factor only you know better.
On the other hand, If the large Telco you are considering is T-Mobile, I hear that after the two mergers they too have had significant challenges.
YOE? You’ll likely get more exit ops down the road
Ask for more money
What level at slalom are you?
I’m a Senior Consultant
Consulting companies go through ebbs and flows of business because they are client-dependent. However, they also allow for high levels of growth in both learning and salary. They also allow you to solve many types of problems.
I wouldn't jump to client side that early in your career. On the client side, you will likely have fewer opportunities for promotion or salary growth, but the stability will be higher. Politics also become more important.
I would say to stay patient - if you feel like you're hitting a wall, figure out why and work on it. Or, if you just have no projects, do some side learning or side earning, or volunteer for things where you see gaps.
Good luck. I wouldn't take the offer, though.
It depends on what you want to do. If you want to work in telecom then take the offer. But if you want to be a strategist and work across industry then I’d stay in consulting. If you choose the latter then consider a move to another consulting firm. That is if slalom isn’t giving you what you need
If you’re ok with pay cut then go forward otherwise I would seek opportunities without pay cut
How many years of experience do you have?
