One is delivery(csm) other is relationship across multiple projects(acct)
In enterprise software co i was at csm was focused on longer term relationship with 20-30 big but not important clients, usage of product, and ultimately renewals.
Account manager was inside sales doing the cold calling and dealing with quoting and such.
Would you say the experience was valuable? Big 4 SC right now thinking of potentially taking a CSM position at an early age startup
Most early stage startups <150-250 ppl don't know what they are doing and so you might be figuring it all out on your own without a lot of feedback from the business. It can be fun. The lack of structure compared to consulting might be jarring.
IMO CSM probly the better more in demand role. Csm often reports up through customer success org. Account manager is a sales role reporting through sales, different path.
