I think you're a hundred percent right on the stress relief and I've got to believe that legal weed is going to lead to a lot less drinking for the people in our industry someday.
Now in fact. It’s legal in many states and I prefer it
What makes it easier is if you work all the time and have no social life you won’t even realize you are not drinking!
I gave up alcohol many times then would have a drink here or there, haven’t had a drink in over a year now. It’s just a waste of time, gets you out of your normal thinking, and you don’t have to worry about feeling crappy anymore in morning. I would highly recommend it. You actually will be happier and more driven. Now I must disclose, you will have to fill the void of not drinking if you struggle so stay busy, “idle hands are the devils workshop.” So I stay in Gods word, workout, and am a vegan now. I’m 5 years in the business and almost doing 850k production. I tell you this because being healthy can really have an impact in your life both at work and at home. God bless my friend!
Not a year but at least 3-4 months. I felt great and even lost weight. If I woke up with a headache not because of a hangover and that was a nice feeling. I must admit I felt great. I am also quitting it at least enjoying a glass at my book club once a month and nothing else.
I quit for about 3 months. I felt more energized, clear headed, and I lost weight and felt better. I think alcohol is a stress relief for many in our industry.
I've been contemplating this. I'm more interested in productivity benefits though. I have a few drinks before bed several nights a week. It's nice to unwind and relax but I end up staying up too late and being less than 100% the next morning.
Also, if anyone has any strategies they used to make this easier, please share. I did give up alcohol for a year before, but that was 10+ years ago...
I have given it up for stretches at a time just to give myself a break. I felt better, more energy, clearer head, healthier. I still drink mostly beer and in moderation. Everything in moderation and you should be good.
Mostly gave it up except the occasional one scotch if socializing on the weekend. Lost weight. Clear head in the office even on monday mornings.
Skinny
I quit for two months. Lost a ton of weight. Actually wife is complaining I’ve lost too much.
It was good for awhile, I was certainly drinking too much. But I’m back to my old patterns. It was making money and growing the business.
I can’t really say for sure if quitting forever is a good or a bad. This business has so much drinking. Every conference I got to, the top producers can drink me under the table and they’re just getting started.
