People leave companies for many reasons. Being treated badly is only one, and hopefully a rare one.
Even if that is the reason, doing a poor job in retaliation is likely to hurt people other than the one you intend. Eg Your slack will probably impact your teammates in addition to your boss. It would be much more productive and professional to use your new found freedom from fuck giving to have an honest conversation with those who treated you badly.
I am a partner working at 1:45 am (just turned off my computer and decided to take a peek at FB, addictive huh?). I’ve spent 20 years in consulting and it is not uncommon for me to work late. It doesn’t upset me. It’s consulting. We have tough jobs. They are very demanding. I want to make sure I sell work so I can provide work for others. I want to make sure my team’s deliverables get the benefit of my experience woven in. So.. I crunch it. Always have. The only times in my career I wanted to quit was when I wasn’t appreciated. If that is the case, you should find a place (inside or outside your firm) where you are valued. But if it is hard work that has you worked up, you need to leave consulting!!!! Cuz #itdoesntgetbetter 😭
Or has been around to know...
Hmm what if I leave simply because I have a better offer. Sure it may reflect poorly on my manager, but if they ain't showing me a promotion or a path to promotion, my ass would be out the door with smoke coming out of my swivel chair as it spins.
If I got a deadline of 6am, I would treat that like 11pm, timebox myself, and make sure I get it done with reasonable quality and also get some sleep. Just gotta manage time better or push back with a more realistic time you can have it ready by.
Hey, try "I know your daughter is in intensive care, but client really wants an update on the issue you discovered..."
I’ll be doing the same soon ✌🏼

Dude shit like this happens, get over it. Your deck is likely due at 6am so people who've put in years of delivering shit at 6am can review it before it goes to the client. If you don't understand quick turnaround of deliverables, then your expectations of this job don't align with everyone else's and you'll likely continue to be disappointed when you're at your next position. Be happy it's 6am and you can relax once you email it off. You aren't special OR unique. Everyone deals with this shit. You aren't 'being treated badly.' It's Judy client serving life. ALSO chances are they said 6am instead of EOD yesterday to give you some extra time on it. Get over yourself.
I actually don’t see a problem with someone saying due at 6am. We are in a line of work where we need to optimize our quality/efficiency so sometimes that means 6am review cycle for 7am updates for 8am client meeting. Don’t like our line of work, go find something else to do. Your partner “takes all the money” to invest in your growth and give you a nice paying job. Would you rather that say “due at midnight”? Would that change anything for you?
6am is no different than any other time of day. It’s the lead time that is important. Not the due time.
Well show yourself out then
Why is deck due then?
KPMG1, we don’t know what kind of leaving we are talking about because the OP hasn’t said why he/she is leaving.
But even assuming it is for the reasons you say, my point is not that the leaving itself is unprofessional. That is totally understandable. No one is a slave. So I agree with everything you say in your points 2-4.
My complaint is that the OP suggests he/she will do a poor job in fulfilling this onerous request because he/she doesn’t care anymore. My point is that such behavior is likely to hurt people beyond the “bad boss” that it is (we suppose) targeted at and taking “revenge” this way is immature and unprofessional.
Simply put, those who put in the work necessary to drive results will excel in this business despite countervailing forces that may not seem immediately logical to them. Those who (rightfully) aren’t willing to do so will find other careers that better suit them. Nothing wrong with either scenario; just a fact of life.
None...none...not ☝🏽
Use Gel... If you get what I mean
M1- where did OP mention he was leaving because he got treated badly ?
Still doing a good job on the task when you're fed up with this shit is still giving a fuck. If you don't give a fuck anymore, you just don't give a fuck. Full stop. Including being seen as unprofessional and burning Bridges and the whole shebang. Of course very few people actually give zero fucks, even when they've decided to leave, and it's very possible OP has a flair for the dramatic but some people on this thread are taking this way too seriously.
Also, no one has asked or said when it was assigned. Maybe it was due at 6am, but was assigned two weeks ago. Maybe OP lives in California and Partner/client are in N.Y. Tons of reasons why this could be legit
