Do any of you have a department that allows you to work out on duty? I am trying to put something together to present to the admin staff about allowing us 30-60 minutes per shift to work out. Just curious if anyone had a policy in place that would help me out.

At my prior Department we were allowed one hour for working out. It was a program we had to sign up for. In order to stay in the program, we had a test at the end of the quarter of the program which had a variety of exercises which we had to pass in order to stay in the program. The program usually lasted around 3-4 months at a time before it started again.

Yes we do 30 mins on duty per shift. But we’re a busy dept and it is hard to fit it in. I find that changing clothes, and listening to the radio is not fun or efficient while working out. Instead, most people come early for their shift or stay late and there is a gym at every station. Firefighters have it good lol

We are allowed to workout on our lunch break which is an hour. We have a gym at the station though so it is more convenient for storing our weapons and gear while working out.

Contact the Roxbury NJ police department, they have a program similar to what you are looming for.

At this point, we don't have this built into our current schedule and I really wish it was. Not only is it importantt for us to stay fit to perform our jobs well, but it is also a massive stress release to be able to lift weights or do intense cardio. You've inspired me, I'm going to advocate for this in my department soon!

We have a wellness program that allows for officers to work out on duty. Most people use about 1.5 hours counting showering/changing etc. we have a sign in log in the gym that you’re supposed to use with your name date time in time out etc. The stipulations in our program are that wellness program must be exercising for fitness not recreational sports. We also have an agreement with our workers comp folks that they are aware of the program and will cover any wellness related injuries as on duty.

It’s incumbent upon the officer/supervisor to make it work with staffing. We do like 2 at the beginning of shift 2 at the end. And then alternate days.

We get three hours a week to work out.

Recently received an offer from Ogletree to do only class action work. It'll be a big change for me, I'll be starting as a fourth year. Double my current salary, etc.

What will this be like? It's more of a niche, but lucrative, part of their practice, right? Will I really get good WLB like they claim? I have a nice 40 hour a week job right now, no billables.

$325k TC at MBB in a non-generalist (still partner track) path. Love the intellectual variety, smart colleagues, flexibility (WFH has let me take occasional 2-3h windows during the day for personal activities) - can’t take the stress anymore. Are WFH industry roles at the $300-500k TC level really that much less stressful?

Hi all, I just got a job offer at PwC for a senior consultant position. The salary is 30% above my total comp right now, but I’m just worried about the amount of work I will have to put in compared to my amazing work life balance now. Does anyone have any experience moving from industry to consulting? I need some advice on what to do. I’m still early in my career (1.4yoe) so I feel like I shouldn’t care too much about wlb, but at the same time, I don’t want my mental health to suffer either.

Went from a big firm to work for a smaller firm. The people in the smaller firm are protective of their work and are good by their work too. I no longer feel chaos or stress. I am treated with respect and my schedule is more normal. I am even working more billable hours than before, but it feels like a seamless experience. I don’t work then past 5pm or anything out of the ordinary for this time of the year. I am so grateful!
