UX research is part of UX design. In my opinion UX is becoming more and more science+business and much less graphic arts. If you just want to design landing pages, you should search for jobs titled as web designer or graphic designer. But my expectation is that you’ll probably get paid half as much and will be replaced by AI shortly. Sorry if that’s harsh but it seems to be the reality these days
It sounds to me like you want a UI job, not a UX job.
They pay lip service to UX research but don’t really actually know what they want. Your correct in thinking many companies don’t really invest in UXR, but the job descriptions will say that anyway and so will the recruiters. Try to get past the first round, brush up on it but search for UI and visual designer posts
How do I get past the first round? What are the most important things I should focus on when talking about the design process? I’m afraid if I talk too little about UX, they won’t want me and if I go into too much detail they will be scared that I will need a crazy amount of time for research to do the simplest task
