Do we think an MBA is beneficial to adland?

Genuinely, no. Got one years ago. Didn’t help me escape from adland (the intended purpose) and I still feel I am lagging behind where I should be in my agency career. Guess it did nothing to offset my persistent overall likability problem 😂

Only client side.

My understanding as well.

You new here?

Can you share??

They’ve already said it but it bears repeating—no. Advertising loses out to consultancies where business strategy is concerned, and our strength is in creative communication and relationships.

It would be beneficial for a career shift, but i/ best for when you already have a target industry in mind. Networking is the best thing you can do at a brand name B-school.

likesmart

This…. It only works for gaining reconsideration in a career change…AND if you get one from a real name brand school.

like

Nope. Experience and likability goes farther

likesmart

Or, maybe get one? What’s the harm in educating yourself to your own benefit. Who cares about all the negativity here - if you want to do it, do it.

like

Got one 2 yrs ago, it’s helped here and there land gigs and jobs as a strategist… but feel it goes further when consulting or pivoting careers.

like

Depends on your situation. I got an MSA in journalism and comms. It got me past the screeners early in my career so I got the interviews and made my career path possible.

like

Worth it if you want to move client-side or into management consulting. Also useful if you want to jump into a different field with no experience in the industry. But if you are staying in advertising, probably only valuable if you have zero business knowledge, are starting your own agency, and found something very affordable. Don’t take on debt for it.

Sorry, I was just being snarky. This is my own personal observation.

No. And you’ll incinerate money getting one.

Not really, no. It just helps in a job search, speaking at conferences, etc.

As my wife says, don’t go inventing things.
