Do you feel that it is ok for managers to discuss issues pertaining to staff members with other staff within the department? And I don't mean asking questions to get to the bottom of things but for example if you let someone go and you and another manager are gossiping about it with other staff. I feel that it is unprofessional of a manager or supervisor to do that and think it's more professional to remain neutral and not share employee info like that if it does not directly relate to you

That is not professional at all. Even if the person is gone, it is still very personal information. It wouldn't make me feel like I worked in a safe place or that I could talk to those managers about anything sensitive.

Nah, it's supposed to be private but it end up out in the open because you are in the hallway talking about it or have your office door open talking about it...it's insane

I work for a specialized group in my litigation group and have had a wonderful experience and really respect and appreciate my boss, the co-chair of this specialized group. I’ve now accepted the opportunity to take over my parents business and plan to leave practice this summer. How do I even start this conversation with him? Has anyone else had a mentor (assigned to them by the Company) who seemed to have it out for you? I mean downright sabotage to make you look bad left and right. I didn’t realize it at first. She was fake friendly, but she was discrete too. Some of the executives thought she was amazing, but I had to clean up her work all the time. She wasn’t above me either on the chain of command. Later I found out she had tried for the exec assistant role and they didn’t choose her, they wanted me instead.

My natural instinct is to assume rejection if I have conflict with a partner or don’t think my feelings are reciprocated. I’ll try to bring it up with them, but I’ll say “if you want to end this feel free” so it doesn’t hurt me (and they can say what they really mean instead of sugarcoating).
