Do you plan on having a conversation with your daughter about the bias and discrimination she’ll face growing up as a girl/woman? Why or why not? If so, at what age and what will you say?

I'm black in an interracial marriage... I imagine it'll happen at the same time as THAT convo. And that will probably happen pretty early.

We discuss this all the time. Many times we talk about bias and privilege of being white or young or old, and being female or male. It’s usually sparked by something happening and a discussion about how different people will experience things differently or be treated differently. She’s aware, to some degree of her privilege. For example, if she or her friends go to the corner coffee shop after school to wait for a parent pick up, they are not given a hard time, because they are young, well dressed, etc. but a person who presented differently may not be allowed to sit in the cafe unbothered. Or if she approached a cop she’d be treated immediately as a victim because she’s a small white girl, whereas a big man or someone disheveled might be treated differently. I’m not saying she’s super woke, but she seems to understand how the world sees her due to her race, gender, age and class. Her school is super progressive, too. They had a whole unit one year where they were shown news photos out of context and discussed clues to what was happening and how their biases led them to make assumptions. It was great, one boy cried presenting his assignment (a pic of the last white rhino walking with armed guards).

We talk about race and gender issues all the time. We’re pretty involved with social justice organizations and politics in general.

Yes, we have been for both of them, but in age appropriate chunks (they’re still young). So we’re using history and stories as a tool, and they know their parents are feminists, what that means and why.

My daughter's a tween and we have been having these conversations her entire life. There are examples of it everywhere, in the media and in real life, so we talk as things come up. I think my husband has learned a few things too, as a result, lol

Been with my boyfriend for 4 years. His family is much more wealthier than mine (6 cars, owns 4 houses, part of 3 businesses). My family is middle class and I feel inadequate around his family because they’re so wealthy. I feel depressed because I can’t live his lifestyle and sad for our future. His family just bought a house for us and my family can’t even buy a second car. Idk how to go about this situation.

Ok, I’m gonna say this. Schools should open. Now hear me out. My wife is a family doctor, she is working insane hours, she is treating covid patients, and there is a lot of days when she has to stay at the hospital without coming home. My neighbour works in a local grocery store, so he has been at work since the Day 1 of lockdown. So if you need medical help, or want to eat, it’s ok for those people to be at work, but their kids have to stay home? Cont’d >>

I’m (early30s) about 8 months into a relationship with a 40m. Things are wonderful in every aspect, but he is absolutely atrocious with his finances. I felt it becoming an issue about two months ago. He forgets about auto payments and just generally doesn’t care. I sat down with him and looked at everything and even after talking it out he still continues to stress and it’s now causing me stress. I had a final discussion with him today about it and he went on abt how love isn’t enough for me…

Friends, need some feedback on an idea:

I’m thinking of starting a podcast interviewing leaders at startups about their experience with specific challenges - I know, cliche, get a more original hobby, etc.

Not looking for the narrative arc of How I Built This or Masters of Scale. Instead, looking to uncover specific problems faced by companies that tried something new for the first time. What did they not see coming, how did they adapt and measure, etc.

Hi all! I need some advice. I came in at a lower level than I wanted and turns out, I did a shitty deal at negotiating. I’m up for a promotion (title but not salary bc of COVID) - when salary increases are a thing, how much should I negotiate for? Like percentage wise, with the fact that I’m about 7-10K underpaid compared to other people with the current title?

What types of work accommodations can help people with ADHD? I am starting to believe 35+ of having not managed my ADHD has really negatively impacted me in career growth etc. I'm realizing a lot of things about myself are because of the ADHD. I want better for myself and family but 1. I don't enjoy the same things forever 2. Imposter syndrome and RSD make me believe it's acceptable to start over in new places at low salaries. 3. Typical college won't work for me. 4. I also can't relocate.
