Yes I do. I think they firmly believe that I make the final calls but they have no idea how hard I fight for them, to be overruled in the end. It's frustrating to be always painted out as the bad guy, but I guess it comes with the job.
It can definitely feel like a thankless job. But I realized over time that if everyone is happy, I'm not doing the job right. Sometimes we have to be the bad guy, for the good of the team.
All the time. I have found that people in leadership roles can enter a thankless job where most people don't understand the decisions that have to be made. I heard this quote recently, "If you aren't bleeding, you aren't leading." Basically, leadership is hard and can be painful.
I could have written this. It’s a hard, thankless job, and I’m realizing I’m the middleman between leadership and them.
Absolutely. Someone is always going to be unhappy no matter what you do or give.
Yes, but you can only do what you can do. And like someone else said, you can't please everybody. When I start to feel discouraged, I just take a deep breath, and remember that this job existed before I came along, and will exist long after I've moved on. As long as you're trying your best, that's all that matters.
I’ve had to realize that you can’t be anyone’s friend anymore and have to make tough calls. It can be a lonely job.
It is hard to find the balance when you first start in leadership to be “friendly” but not be everyone’s friend where you and the company get abused.
Absolutely feel that! I’ve always been someone who goes above and beyond but when I started doing less of that, I’m the bad guy.
