Hi guys,
I am currently on notice period and my LWD is Sep 2, 2022. Today, I got an offer from state street mentioning my joining date as Sep 12, 2022 even though I already told HR that I would like to join from Sep 5 itself. How can I convince HR to prepone my joining date to Sep 5, 2022. I don't want to lose my one week salary guys. Pls suggest. State Street

I’m so so sorry :( congrats on the interviews tho! it’s so tough bc most HR polices don’t have guidelines around “worldwide pandemic” but it sounds like your old company failed to get with the times. I️ feel you tho, my company had me travel for two week engagements in May, June, and September. I️ started having panic attacks each time my company mentioned traveling during the pandemic.. mental health is no joke and should not be taken lightly. I spoke through each one of my specific concerns with my director until i felt comfortable with our protocol. It shouldn’t be held against you by future employers that your former employer fired you bc your weren’t comfortable returning to office during a pandemic... other employers will most likely agree with your morals lol Play this experience in your favor! You “strategically adapted during a worldwide crisis to deliver high value work”
While also standing up for yourself to your former employer that “no job is worth more than a human life and COVID is a unique opportunity for company’s to demonstrate their readiness to adapt”
It’s not your fault your former employer failed to keep you, best of luck with the interviews!!
Sorry about the long post.. but I️ feel like I’m in a similar position so PLEASE let me know if you have any advice after the interviews
Your last company sounds unsympathetic. I’m sorry you got fired but I’m glad you got out of there.
I think it should be fine especially if you just got your separation letter yesterday. You can say employment till November
The people who run the background check typically only care that you actually worked where you said you worked.... if you didn’t put the employer down they wouldn’t even know you worked there. That said, if you’re feeling some sort of guilt then you can disclose the change in employment but I wouldn’t.
Also, review the separation letter and email HR back asking for 6 months of severance. They may meet you in the middle with 3 but at least try getting some additional money from the employer.
