To answer your question, your friend is the exact kind of person I despise in the watch community. Yes, it makes financial sense as long as he/she is flush enough to cover a random accident that may happen between purchasing and selling it. I hope the AD notes the sale and bans him/her afterwards though.

It’s not their marketing, Rolex isn’t making money from the secondary market. It could easily be argued that they’re losing money from an opportunity perspective.
It's not about financing, the problem is that buying a desirable Rolex at MSRP is challenging because it is an arbitrage opportunity
