Was at a place where everyone was expected to be camera on, even firmwide town halls, with hundreds of participants. Inevitably, the video and audio would start failing.
I never tell anyone to turn on their camera. However, It’s harder to build relationships without being able to see the people I’m working with. If you want to work remote and keep employers from forcing you back into the office, keep the camera on.

OP - agree, that’s lame of your boss to give you a hard time about a last minute early morning meeting.

My UK team is 100% always on camera. I used to be camera off on large calls that I wasn’t an active participant on so I could do dishes or laundry while I listened and got in trouble

If your work is very meeting-heavy, definitely not! Can’t be on camera all day every day. But for certain important meetings it’s generally an expectation (though if you weren’t feeling well or rushing from something else, nobody gets upset if someone says they aren’t camera ready).
No
If the meeting organizer has the camera on then yes, otherwise no ..
No, my boss doesn’t like to have camera on lol.
My boss likes cameras on but he doesn't push unless it's internal team meetings.
Yep!
