Ever been blindsided at work? I was fired earlier this month for not being a ‘personality fit,’ and it shook me to my core. I received good feedback on my work but they said I wasn’t fitting in. I was never informed about complaints or given a chance to address any issues. So yesterday, I interviewed for an amazing opportunity and tried to explain my termination without too many details, and I was as honest as possible. I'm wondering if it will help or hurt my chances.

I had a similar thing happen. It means someone in power did not like you which absolutely sucks and many times it is more about that things you’re doing right (because they see you as a threat) then what you did wrong. In my case, my manager was clearly jealous I was in law school and I found out after they fired me she told everyone at the job I was a pathological liar and was not in law school. Meanwhile all you have to do is google my name and the blog articles I wrote for law review come right up.

Oh and I realized I didn’t answer your question. I would not mention it at all. I did At a great firm I would have loved to have worked at who seemed to be about to hire me and never heard back from them.

You're gonna have to explain what you said during the interview to have a better idea. Honest is good, but there is such a thing as too honest.

like

That’s such a tough situation. I think being transparent but focusing on your skills and what you bring to the table is the best approach. It’s not about airing dirty laundry but showing that you’ve learned from the experience. Sometimes, things just don’t align, and it’s important to find the right fit where you can grow.

like

How is she supposed to have "learned from the experience?" I agree with the post that said don't mention it or, if asked, say that you left because of a lack of communication from your supervisors.
It happened to me too because, as it turned out, they wanted to rehire my predecessor. Best thing that ever happened to me!
Sometimes there's nothing you could have done to change their minds and you are just wasting your time there.

Why even go there. A simple it wasn’t the right fit would suffice. Focus on your skills and education and how it’s transferable and why you are the candidate for the job. Leave the past where it is.

I disagree. And I have told the truth in a similar situation. People understand more than you give them credit for

This happens more than you know. Attorneys are a dime a dozen. Good paralegals are not. I actually had an office manager tell me "the girls" (other women in the office) didn't like me. Hold your head up. Pray. Stay strong and be honest. You're going to be fine.

Honesty is always the best but, no need in giving more details or justifying yourself. If they want to know more they will ask. If they are going to judge you and pass by you or ghost you then you don’t want to work for them anyway.

Just tell them it was not the right fit. There’s no need to go into details. Usually they don’t ask that. Every firm and situation is different. The last firm you were with was probably a douche. The next one may be fabulous. Good luck!

Working Moms/Dads: Do in-house positions exist with flex time hours? I need to be able to leave work at 4pm to pick up my son from daycare, but i can get back online at home to resume any unfinished work at 8pm. Is this realistic to convey to any companies in an interview? Pandemic aside, is face time 9-7pm really important? Or should i just try to find a job with a salary that covers a nanny salary and accept that i will never see my son on weekdays (which would be sad for both of us)? TIA!

Hii fishes
I had applied for consultant role in Societe generale. The application status is under status "Under Consideration".If you could please help me out as there has been no update and it is going to be 1 month since I applied.

What can you do if you’re getting interviewed by the same person who didn’t choose you in the first place?
Context: I applied for a position a while back and got interviewed, but didn’t go to the next round. I found the same position open again a month later at a different location and applied. Almost immediately, I was called for an interview, but with the same interviewer. What does this mean? Is this going to get awkward?

I wanted to get people's opinions on leetcode, codewars etc when prepping for interviews. I am a junior full stack dev looking to move to a better paying junior role or a mid role and honestly these style of questions have always stumped me. I have found that in a year of work to have never found them useful in tackling real world issues. Now I'm moving from a junior to a mid can I still expect leetcode style questions?

I work mainly with react, TS, node, graphql, mongoose and mongoDB.
