Just use sick days
SM1 - almost everyone is off during those Xmas holidas and people who are not have the least productive working days. Most the firm has furlough during that time as well. On top if that you getting add'l day off too. So learn to cooperate, Instead of complaining.
I am happy to have a job this week and through the Xmas holiday honestly. I know many that do not have that luxury as of last week.
The firm will never tell u not to work. If you want to bill and not take the designated US holidays they will take it. Most of us need the break and you should all enjoy the downtime.
We have to use FTO during Christmas break if we're not working.
When I was with GT, this was never an issue. Still prefer EY, but still...
K soooo they gave staff and seniors extra vacation hours to cover this. Plus take off and get a break. Who cares. If you aren’t busy, what’s the big deal?
@EY15 that is a good point. My group promotes using your PTO but I have friends in other groups that are never able to take time off.
Similar here. That said the rest of the ROW affiliates definitely get two weeks off no questions and 2-4 weeks for summer (based on location) no question no reaching them. The U.S. sucks for this type of thing.
This is literally only a problem for the two years that you are a staff. Seriously, two years. And I’m using the word “problem” very liberally here. Don’t be short sighted. This is not a big deal. You’re getting three more paid days off (extra holiday time) than any other staff in the history of EY. You my friend, have found yourself right smack in the middle of the glory days of being a staff. Oh to be so fortunate!
The EY vacation policy clearly sucks the most out of the big 4.
^yeah that’s not cool then. We have to give up two days for our Christmas break, but it’s not too bad
OP: senior manager get the same vacation hours as the managers.
And it’s not four weeks. It’s 22 PTO days and 3 personal days. So five weeks
Read the policy closer. You don’t have to take vacation days if you work during that time. I a partner that needs help during that time if you need work
@EY3: do you use sick days as vacation days though? The technical term for that is that's unethical. Just because everyone does it doesn't mean it's right.
And we can be happy with the extra days but still acknowledge that we don't get a lot of vacation, especially compared with how much we work. Just because we get a lot of vacation compared with the rest of the American workforce doesn't mean it's a lot.
Sounds like you should not be working at the big 4. What are the benefits? Never sounds good....
EY3: I didn't see your response before. Don't you think it's a problem that some parts of the world that function very well economically think that we don't have a lot of vacation, when we are already at the top end of the spectrum vacation-wise in the US?
We don't get a lot and that's the reality; America does not equal or even represent the world lol. So I completely disagree with you on that - we can comparatively get a lot of vacation days in America but it's still not a lot. It's like saying a grad student working a part-time job earning $15k-20k a year is wealthy, when you compare them to the high schooler who's earning money babysitting.
I also disagree with you that any mention of not enough vacation days automatically puts us into the complainers category. I don't need to complain when I just state an opinion.
And if you don't take sick days all off then I don't think you can count them as days off because they're not free to use unless actually being used for health-related issues. Although this means I do count ADO. And just a reminder that seniors didn't have 22 days until this year, but the 10 sick days have been in place for a long time - I joined the firm before last fiscal year and it was in place then. Check your facts before you make a claim about how much things have improved.
Does EY only get 3 weeks of PTO? That sucks
@kpmg 4, we get 22 days vacation (except staff are 15), 3 personal days, and 10 sick days. Wouldn’t say it sucks tbh
Personal days don’t roll over but other than that, nothing
@all EY staff don’t you realize that (a) your seniors getting more PTO doesn’t matter because they work all those extra hours throughout the year? and (b) if your senior is off it means you get to either be off or work from home? this is a gigantic extra perk for all seniors and staff...if you can’t see that then you need to change your attitude and probably leave Big 4
I disagree. I’m very grateful for the additional time off and the dedicated office closure
