EY really takes that -8 hours variance to heart. I can see how it can lead to overcharging clients to keep up with hours 🤦🏾♂️. Counter intuitive if you ask me EY

Not sure what you are saying but don’t overcharge your clients.
😂😂😂😂😂
-8 is nothing, in FSO if your under by 1 hours you have to fill out a variance form… it’s ridiculous

I'm in advisory and we bill for actual hours charged. I do the invoicing for the two projects I'm currently on so I am 100% certain it's the case for those projects at least. Have had to do "catch up" billings when people backdate their time weeks later, etc
Yep I’ve said this all along. Also why GDS overcharges every client. Yet they’re always silent when you charge 60 and you had 40 on your schedule, smh.

Huh?
You trip and fall often? Huh?
What?
Not understanding…I charge what I work which is usually less than what I’m budgeted for and don’t get any emails from PwC. Occasionally my senior will ping me to make sure I’m not eating hours (def am not). I mean, I make up for it during busy season and some things take me longer. But still.
KPMG does the same too. Silly

It's not overcharging the client if you choose to take your time when needed

Firms write it off usually if people are over budget, unless there is a legitimate reason. If a first year or manager did the same job the hours will be vastly different and the difference in their hourly rate will not compensate for the difference.
It helps with forecasting and they ask too if hours will be added in the future to recover the planned hours. Somewhere I'm sure it better used by management but it all depends on how honestly you answer the questionnaire. Top rule is always though to charge what you worked. If people are charging to avoid the email thats a bigger problem honestly.
Is having a variance a bad thing? If there is little client work to do shouldn’t you just take the variance and explain this instead of overcharging the hours?
Wondering the same… project just started so not working close to the allotted 45 hours a week yet
