Firm management just sent out a survey asking if associates would use a platform like slack for informal communication among each other. Why do I feel like there’s hidden dangers here?

Just realized I hadn’t had an in-person interview since 2019. I’ve done multiple zoom interviews and was onboarded remote in 2020. About to see a real person today! Wish me luck.

Our district voted on returning back to school with students in the classroom and some staying at home. We now have to teach students in the room and on Zoom at the same time. I’m not complaining but does anyone have any tips on the best and most effective way to get this done?

I tutor ESL after school and recently switched over to Zoom. Students are stating that they are unable to annotate. I’ve read that this is common for Chromebook users. Today shit blew up so much on my two gigs all I could hear for hours was the constant barrage of pinging noises from outlook, gmail, slack and teams. Like some kind of hellish tech sounding symphony. I will probably go to sleep tonight with pings, clicks, chimes and whooshes echoing in my head into the void. Seriously y’all how do we not lose our fucking minds?

Has anyone gone through the Breeze Airways panel to interview? Can you give me some insight? Is it a panel of several interviewers asking me questions OR several candidates being interviewed at the same time? How are you developing client relationships when in-person networking is out?

I'm used to hanging out with my clients frequently, grabbing coffee, stopping by the office, etc. Zoom/Hangouts meetings just feel really awkward and it's difficult switching from business development which was 90% IRL to nearly all online... Especially when I run a 1-person shop.

Zoom meetings have been fantastic. I can highly recommend my home group SOS. 7:30 daily. Great way to get grounded as you start your day.

I'm under contract for a new build in progress that won't be done until much later this year. I fully expect interest rates will be higher than what I originally estimated. I may or may not try to lock in a good rate early, but I'm planning on renting it out and this throws a bit if a wrench in my margins. I can take it financially, but wondering, If I absolutely needed to get out of buying it, what recourse do I have? Or could I go ahead, and refinance later (who knows rates at that time...)?

How do you approach a firm recruiting you when you weren't looking to move? It would be similar work, but I could negotiate a significant salary boost which would help my family reach financial goals faster. I like everything about my firm, but the pay is on the low side. I've never interviewed when I wasn't eager to leave my current job, and I'm uncertain how to discuss that with the recruiter & interviewer. I want to leverage it, but don't want to sound greedy.

How do firms calculate how much parental leave to provide, either paid or unpaid. Or do they just pick a number, like “yeah they can get to know their kid in a few weeks and I couldn’t possibly have that attorney out for 12 weeks?” I’m at a small firm, no FMLA or state requirement. We get four weeks paid and four weeks unpaid. Would like to push for more but not sure how to argue costs side of it.

So I feel a combination of relief and guilt as a bankruptcy/restructuring attorney. I think I’ll be ok since it’s going to be a very busy time soon. But at the same time nobody else is going to be ok

I'm in a litigation, about 9 months in. Is it normal that I spend majority of my time making bundles for my partners (printing, binding, moving docs in a different order whenever there are new documents or he wants to add stuff) reviewing documents and making tables (e.g. dates, which documents are from where), and the only legal work is like notices of admission, list of documents, the occasional research? I'm so bored and I want to quit but I don't know if I have unrealistic expectations.
