Folks, need help..I have $1000 remaining in my dependent care fsa,I mistakenly assumed I can use it till March 31 of next year but just got the notification that it needs to be utilized by Dec 31 of this year..what options do I have to make any use of the money, other than enrolling my kid for a backup care in the last week of December? Can we roll this money to a diff account or any other creative strategies?

That is strange. Normally see March 15 as the deadline to use remaining balance for Daycare FSA.

Unfortunately, once funds go into a Daycare FSA, they do not roll into other accounts. At least none I have ever seen.

like

yup, that’s what I assumed and hence left it in there..gotta sacrifice the $1000,would have appreciated a donation option though..would rather donate that money

You can use we the file reimbursement if you have paid child care outside of the account. The March date is to file probably not use. So if you spent out of pocket. File a claim to be reimbursed

I’m really discouraged. My after tax / after 401k contributions etc. take home pay is $6,500 monthly. I have $60,000 in savings / stocks for a down payment but even looking at a $550,000 home, my monthly payment would be about $3,400 from the calculators I’ve been using. Is that too high?

So discouraged that houses where I live are about 50% higher than what they were 2 years ago, and now interest rates are around 5.25% for my credit score. This is like a 1750 sq foot home

My boyfriend and I make 200K combined and live in NJ. We have $1000 in monthly car payments combined. That’s all we owe. Our credit scores are in the 800s. We have 50K to put down on a home. We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok. But then he starts to talk about how much kids cost and how we will be house poor and we won’t be able to afford kids. 🤔 Am I insane??

Making a lot of money relative to the average but feeling poor? Median after-tax income was ~$55,000 in 1981 and was ~$73,000 in 2020. Using a Bank of Canada inflation calculator $55,000 in 1981 is equivalent to ~$165,000 today, which would put someone in the top 10% of earners today. But in 1981 the median family had that extra money. Who can I blame?

529 Plan VERSUS Prepaid

Does anyone have recommendations on which plan to go with for each child? I once did the pros and cons on a whiteboard and it seemed like 529 was better.
