Hoping it will! Nissan has been in trouble for a while now and Honda stepping in may be the best thing that could happen. We’ll see how long it takes to hopefully get something good out of it. Interested, but cautious, there are still a lot of issues and I don’t think it’s predicted to be official until next year.
My first thought is probably not. My understanding of the deal is that it's more about economies and business decisions, not really design or engineering functions. And from what I recall reading, it wouldn't really be happening in full for a number of years. By that point, who knows what cars, or the car market, will even look like?
Consolidation typically drives prices lower to force out competition and then higher when the companies have eliminated as much competition as possible. Betting you see something similar. Consolidation is not typically good for consumers.
