You should understand the clinical trials for your product better than anyone besides medical (and maybe better if they cross multiple brands). You can get away with having a top-level understanding of MOA
Buddy up to your medical director. Understanding of the primary endpoint, any secondary endpoint, patient profiles, and MOA/key differentiators are really what you gotta nail. In terms of “high science”, I feel like this only really really matters for oncology, especially if you’re in a competitive class.
Some rare disease can be more intense than oncology

The more you understand your drug, its trials, the disease, the competitive landscape etc, the better your work will be and the easier your work will be.
Just read all you can and look up anything you don’t fully understand. Medical directors are human, too. Which means they aren’t necessarily always right.
Listening to market research and hearing drs talk about the product I found very helpful for increased scientific understanding
Amazing tips, thanks!
It’s easier to have strategic thinking behind your work when you truly understand the drug. Selling in ideas to the client is also easier when you can discuss the strategy behind your creative decisions and how they communicate complex information effectively.
