I got a remote L6 SWE offer at Google but the RSUs are too low for that level ($625k over 4 years), could not negotiate it higher. I’ve accepted the offer but trying to be hopeful that I could make it more equitable in the future if I perform well. Are stock refreshers based on the initial RSU grant or solely based on performance? Google

I’d ask for a contract that guaranteed employment for a certain period of time if you moved.
i think you have to factor in job security (if that’s even a thing).
Remote all the way
I think remote is numbered. Really hoping I’m wrong, but I’d take the promotion and go back. You’ll have more options for when your time at that company ends.
You should also consider: maybe they’re asking you to come back with a promotion because they really like you and want to keep you. But if you don’t come back, you be part of the first round of layoffs. They’ll cut the remote workers first. That’s what happened to me and several of my teammates.
The advice that I’ve always held close is - make the call that best suits your next move not just your current mood. I.e How does it lead you to the future promotion/job, and/or enable future life/family plans etc.
In 2 years will you still be working remote? Will you be able to find a new/step up role that’s remote and satisfies? Will moving to the city be best for your situation? Will there be more new/step up roles hybrid/in office there? Etc
I would move back and keep it going through this crazy ass time.
In this job economy, I’d take it so fast
