Genuinely curious - will people ever start going back to the office consistently? Lots of hybrid talk here but from what I’ve seen no one is consistent and no managers are pushing it. Very lax and seems that no one is overly eager to get back in the office on a consistent schedule. We started going in 2x week back in April. I’ve been in a total of 6x. Only 3x was anyone on my team even there. Not once was I told to come in, at most it was suggested for ppl to start coming as they are comfortable

Wait until the balance of power favors employers again. I suspect more people will be full time (or at least 3-4 days weekly) onsite once that happens.

That’s my assumption as well. I think a hybrid of around three days a week in office is not bad.

Unless you do manual labor of some kind or work in the service/hospitality industry, I truly don’t understand why jobs can’t be 100% remote. Most companies have a policy against employees touching each other! So why not phone calls/Zoom?

Hopefully not.

It depends on the community of the workplace I think

If it's a heavily social workplace that's mostly in good mood then yes. Conversely, if only the work is great but the workplace is toxic, chances are people are avoiding to having to deal with it. More so for staff only involved on technical matters.

My workplace was trying to push for the RTO/hybrid, and there was a clear observation that most didn't want to be there. People started leaving the company in succession, and finally we reverted back to fully wfh. You can tell my workplace is very much so the latter.

I mean they are just facilities that are available to employees - you sign a waiver and you’ve got access. There’s classes scheduled but from what I’ve seen not many people in there. It’s pretty weird - like being in an episode of the twilight zone. They’re still maintaining this huge campus and it’s facilities but no one is here. I see like 10 people a day when I’m there. Just walking past in halls and on pathways outside. I don’t know the actual number of people here on a given day because it’s an enormous campus - but it’s not even at 5% capacity I’d wager. Curious to see how this whole thing plays out.

Most of my department is still on remote/hybrid. Only a few (including me) has been back in office 100%. We recently had our yearly performance review. I give you 3 guesses who are the people who got great reviews and highest performance increases (you only need one guess) ?

My office is co consistently in the office 2-3 days per week. I’m currently doing three because I’m new but may drop to two once I feel more settled. So far it seems like a good balance of actually getting to know people but not having a daily commute.

The jobs I’ve had have REQUIRED in person attendance unless sick all the way through 2020 to now. I haven’t been “remote” ever. Count your lucky stars lol

If the latest covid strain is as yucky as it sounds that might keep people out of offices, too.

I go pretty often because I like to see my coworkers and have some separation of home and work.

And our office is sweet.

Really fascinating study in corporation policy and space utilization. WSJ has had some great articles. Big cities really affected and you all are aware how hard NYC politicians are pushing to get employees working downtown. Some really big impacts on the square footage requirements of a company where employees are in office 3 days per week - and 3 days seems to be becoming a default for many. One of my sons is 100% remote (SF abased tech company), one is 3 days in office (smaller local specialty engineering firm), and I will be mostly in office as a new CEO of a nonprofit (previous nonprofit was 4 days in office).

Hopefully those office buildings turn in to apartments and housing prices stop being so insane.

I ask because I’ve let my credit spending get a bit lax since moving and adopting a puppy recently, so I haven’t been paying them off in full every month like I used to (though still well above the minimum payment, and keeping utilization at 30% or under). It got me thinking about how many people adhere to this advice.
