Given a choice between equity partnership in a small firm (nine attorneys, but one is a managing partner who doesn't really practice) or owning a successful solo practice, what would be your choice and why? I'm on track for partnership within a few years at my injury law firm, but I'm currently being pushed to start my own firm with the assistance/consulting of a non-attorney who controls enough referral sources and has enough firm/business management knowledge for us to succeed.

I work at a small, 3 lawyer firm. One of the lawyers is not barred in the state we practice. Because of this, the managing attorney has been having him draft motions and other legal documents and use my name and bar number and having me file them because I will have to appear in court for the matter. Is this normal? I am not provided time to review the materials before I file them so I end up working longer days because I am nervous to file something using my name and bar number.

3 attorney firm. I’ve been here for 6 years and have used Westlaw exclusively. Now we are switching to Lexis because apparently Westlaw is too expensive. I hate change. I know where everything is on Westlaw and now I need to relearn. Apparently Westlaw will not budge on price and would rather just see a client leave than work with them. Super annoying. Any insight on negotiating Westlaw or transitioning to lexis?
