I received ticket for reckless driving. I hired a lawyer for about $700. He was on the high end but I wanted to pay the extra cost. took it to court and they dropped it down to improper driving. No misdemeanor. I recommend hiring a lawyer who knows the judge and prosecutor. They do these misdemeanor cases all they. It’s their bread and butter.
Yes. Got pulled over going 90 on a 55 (495 near Tyson’s) and had it reduced to a normal speeding ticket. I recommend John Boneta & Associates in Falls Church. They took care of my dumbass.
I’m signed up for the legal plan benefit at my firm and didn’t pay a dime so not sure about costs without it.
Use that Hyatt legal benefit from Deloite. Same thing happened to me and I didn’t pay a penny for the lawyer fees.
Anything over 80mph or 20+ over the speed limit is automatic reckless driving. Ironic given the other reckless behaviors on the road. Definitely get a lawyer and look for one that is well established in the court for your hearing. Better chances of charge reduction if that lawyer has good relationships in the court. They'll probably tell you to do the defensive driving class online as a preemptive measure. It'll help if you have a clean or pretty clean record. It's good that you know to combat this. Lots of people esp out of towners have been hit with this and don't realize it's considered a Class 1 Misdemeanor. But many have been able to get theirs reduced as it seems more a racket to bring in money. Good luck!!!
Get a local one. It’s all about their relationship with the prosecutors. Call around. My husband just got one and lawyers fees are close to 700.
Lmao yes, I have gotten 3 reckless driving tickets (I’m from NY and I hate the state of VA’s driving laws making this a misdemeanor). Mine cost about $430 for the ticket/court fees, and I don’t have a specific one to recommend but would definitely suggest getting a lawyer as well to try and reduce it
It’s so dumb. The drivers going fast in VA aren’t the ones you need to worry about... I’m waiting for it to become a misdemeanor to do a 100 point turn in the middle of an intersection
This happened to my brother many years ago...a family friend (lawyer) helped him out and he seemed to make it out relatively unscathed
Find a lawyer with connections in the county. Spare no expense. If found guilty, appeal until you've exhausted all appeals. This worked for me, albeit in a different county.

What's the point of making it a misdemeanor if they regularly drop the charge down in court? All this does is line the lawyers pockets and keep the courts too busy to deal with real cases in a timely manner
This happened to me. I didn’t hire an attorney (I’m married to one, who practices in another state), but what I did was pull together a package to use with the prosecutor and the state trooper to plead my case. I prepared a resume to show the work I did and how a conviction would prevent me from performing work that benefited the community. I also listed all my community service activities and volunteered a number of hours in the weeks leading up to my court date to show I was sorry and seeking to make amends. On my court date I showed up at the “prosecutor deal room” to talk with the prosecutor about adjusting the charge down to something less serious. He said to talk with the trooper. I talked with the trooper and the trooper was willing to be nice. They bumped it down to speeding and I had to pay a fine and some fees. This was Arlington county, but I suspect Fairfax is similar
Honestly. I don’t see the need for a lawyer. Assume you’re going to pay between 350-500 for the charge in fines. Now assume you can drop the charge and fees but pay for a 500+ dollar lawyer. And yes - I’ve received this charge twice in the last 8 years. Just pay and move on. The most annoying part is having to go to court in person
