They're different career tracks at these companies. Technical role ICs out-earn a lot of managers. So, it really comes down to where you want your career to progress down the line. The typical mapping is M level = IC level - 1.
That’s true in my experience. Unfortunately, the role at the big fish is categorized as nontechnical even though it sits between sales and the technical teams.
Different companies have different scales. In a way larger firms are less likely to inflate titles to keep young talents.
With that said, larger firms are tricky in a downturn economy.
They have more cash reserve but they are also more ruthless in layoffs. So make sure the new division/department is relatively recession proof.
Larger firms are less likely to give you huge salary boost as well. So negotiate well before you get in.
You need to trade job seniority vs brand name. Often at big Companies, you can grow nicer to different fields and international. Do your competing offers with companies overseas or local champions?
