Anyone here in IB restructuring willing to share tips and good resources to use to prep for an upcoming interview? I don’t have IB/finance experience but took a modelling course on wallstreetprep. Also, I am planning on studying the HL case study and read the interview guides on restructuringinterviews.com. Lastly, If you can share what the interview was like for you, that would be appreciated. TIA

I don’t think I ever would some people
I’m sure catch on about it though
I don’t think I ever would. I don’t really see any upside because I don’t think they can make any real accommodations and people would just view it as an excuse.
Ugh. Yeah. That’s my feeling as well. An excuse, at least - and worst, folks start looking for ways it shows or something.
Do you think there are ways it shows up in your work? Or things neurotypical people would pick up on? I feel like I can maybe notice it in other people but only because I experience it - if I didn’t know about adhd myself I’d probably have no idea.
Yes it does for me ... I asked my old coach/mgmrs that worked with me before I was diagnosed and they admitted they had a hunch - notable “quirks” were my lack of organization, easily distracted in the audit room by noises, I tend to go off topic and talk a lot... documentation wise I’m told I put way too much detail than needed but it is very through and reperformable...wp turnaround is slow and doesn’t “appear to show a sense of urgency” (well when you know when the real drop dead deadline is my brain takes advantage of that)
I did to my SM - he also has adhd as well and mentioned it so I took the chance to share in hopes of getting advice on how he successfully manages his workload and tips on survival; he shared that instead of disclosing the condition to the team (from his experience folks generally jumps to conclusion that he’s making an excuse when all he wanted was their understanding and not misinterpret) he said it’s more effective to tell the team your personality “quirks” and what they can do to help manage when these situations arise;
Only other person I shared this with is another senior that disclosed openly he has adhd as well (we looked at each other’s Rx bottles to see who’s higher dose lmao); i think it helps knowing that I can squirrel with him comfortably and vice versa
Tbh I don’t think I received any real accommodation/benefit to disclosing and to your point - the work is there either way
Disclaimer: I’m currently not working because I needed time to reset my life.
I didn’t officially disclose it, but I let a couple of the partners I know and trust know. It was helpful somewhat and I probably could’ve worked with them a bit more to get some additional help. I’m a high performer and very technical, but I looked bad based off of performance metrics. I worked at PwC and we have daily time reporting and it was a performance metric. One of the partners had their EA ping me daily if I hadn’t put my time in yet for the previous day. Which seems so trivial, but it was way more helpful than me ignoring my own reminders.
Looking back, I honestly wish I would have just hired myself a part time personal assistant for things like that. Yes it would have taken money but I think it would have helped me so much in managing my work life.
I disclosed this year and it’s been a horrible experience. As others mentioned, I did it to try and share how my minds works for their understanding. However, I was told I need to stop using this crutch and find ways to improve on those areas I struggle.
I countered back stating that I just learned my diagnosis this year and I have been learning new tools and how to improve those areas.
The reason I disclosed is because my reviews consistently show I struggle with things others with adhd struggle with. Long story short, I would not have disclosed from the start.
Damn, so sorry to hear this. Does KPMG have a disability advocacy network or neurodiversity group you could connect with?
I did. When disclosing at work, remember that YOU are your best advocate. Like medications, accommodations aren’t going to “fix” things completely, but rather allow us to create solutions/workarounds. We’re all different so finding things that work for YOU is imperative. Bc of this, there really isn’t a standardized list, but some companies have ERGs for sharing tips and tricks with one another. Here’s what’s help me…

Hyperactivity
*Take active notes in meetings or when you are reading long documents to prevent restlessness.
*Move around when you begin to feel restless. Exercise or take a walk at lunch or during break.
*Get a sit-stand desk and foot hammock for under your desk (true game changer for me)
It wasn’t until I didn’t give a flying f*ck what others thought about me before I did disclose. Hopefully someone can benefit from my long lists of things that are currently working for me 😎
