I never did, but wish I did bcuz I had a breakdown which was under a microscope and led to several narratives from people that had no clue what was going on. If you feel like you need a break please don’t ignore it
Yes, I was hospitalized for anxiety and was able to take almost a month of short term disability. There is likely a person in HR who can walk you through what kind of documentation is needed to access these benefits (both the federally mandated ones like FMLA and the company provided provided ones like paid disability leave). You don’t really need to “make a case” to your company, you just need your doctor to provide the right documentation to get your claim approved.
Yes. Took three months off. I was getting a depression treatment that required me to go into an office every single day for six weeks, but i took the full 12 weeks. It was a few years ago and I really wish I could do it again.
I was getting bullied, gas-lit and defamed by an ECD. Took a leave. Found another job. Never looked back.
Yes. Just recently. Talk to your doctor, Google FMLA and then go to HR. Your mental health is very important.
Thank you everyone! I Really appreciate the answers and additional perspective.
Yes, I suffered from severe anxiety and panic attacks earlier this year and was able to take 6-weeks off work under FMLA. My STD claim was denied (very hard to get approved) however my company pays FMLA at 100% so I was covered. Check with HR on your company’s FMLA policy and have your doctor fill out the insurance company’s paperwork. Take the time for yourself, it will all work out. Thinking of you!
Manager 1, I went through the same thing. It was a terrible process and it made my anxiety so so much worse. I had to fill out copious amounts of paperwork only for it to be denied. Most companies will pay a portion if not full salary on FMLA which is easy to get approved however. But yeah, the process is BS.
You'd have to check your company's policies but unless you are "in treatment" it's unlikely they'll let you take a leave just "for yourself." I have a colleague who checked himself into a facility but...they aren't cheap.
Yeah, the difference is that I said "check your company's policies," which differ from company to company, while you are taking your knowledge of your own company and insisting that it's just automatically going to be a walk in the park for OP, so good for you. "Your company doesn't get any say" is just flat out untrue unless you are taking federally mandated UNPAID leave. I'm plenty of fun at parties because unlike you I don't pretend to know what I don't know.
Yes, done this twice. I first went through the mental health phone services offered by my company and then went from there to find therapist, psychiatrist, etc. Second time talked to my psychiatrist directly.
