Is it worth asking for a pay raise if you know you are leaving the firm soon? Coming up on my one year at a firm. How do people focus in the office? I'm a first year and I've been mostly wfh since I started and I'm super productive at home - my setup is comfortable, I rarely get interrupted, and I feel like I can stay really focused in my home office.

Our SAs started today, so the firm is making us come in more often. My office set up is so awkward, screens are too small, and I'm constantly getting interrupted. Not to mention the extra time it took to get ready and commute. How do people do this?

I get the impression that many are biglaw haters. With some, any attempt at being service minded and asking "have you thought about X, we can help" makes them whine about scope and costs.

What corporate practice has better longevity if your goal is to stay in big law for as long as possible: M&A or Capital Markets?

I do miss seeing my colleagues sometimes but being able to actually use random breaks in the day that you get in transactional, especially as a junior, productively (work out, cook a meal, fold laundry) has made this job so much easier and sustainable for me. It’s still exhausting and so unpredictable and the December crush is killing me but I don’t know how anyone did this for more than a year or two pre-Covid when people spent all day and evening in the office.

I am a first year who just started a couple of months ago and I am literally confused all the time. I did some small work for two partners and they loved it, so put me on new deals but the mid levels I am staffed with absolutely hate the work I do. One said the work I did was laughable. I felt bed because I spent over 25 hours on this. I wouldn’t be very bothered but the other Associates in my class are killing it. So I just feel dumb all the time.

Would love to hear thoughts on this one. Asking your firm to make sure the hotels at retreats stock quality 0.0 beer or other sober-curious-friendly options. Super progressive or super needy?

Help evaluating potential move please. I was at my first firm for 3 years. I got scalped at the start of biglaw hiring craze and it was awful. I honestly made it 6 months and jumped ship. I love my current firm but it’s my 3rd firm in now 3 1/2 years. I did move to explore a different practice area and love it. I got an offer to interview for an opportunity to go to Europe and I’m really considering it but 4 firms seems like too many. Do you agree? I wish I never jumped to the second one but I
