What are your thoughts about someone willing to pursue SAP consulting as a career ? Oracle and SAP are standard ERP systems in Fortune/Big companies so even if one joins and learns in 2-3 yrs what are the growth opportunities in SAP ? I do recognize that there are a lot of advanced planning systems out there but in reality is it fair to assume that one can easily plateau off in 5 yrs from a career progression standpoint?SAP Oracle o9 Solutions Blue Yonder Kinaxis Inc.

I did the opposite, Big4 to BigLaw, I was in transaction tax…same amount of work for less pay. And I literally do the same thing, mark up merger agreements, review data rooms, and draft red flag reports.
Not necessarily a pay cut depending on your experience level. Big 4 salaries are individually negotiated and not transparent. At my previous big 4 group, some senior managers made less than BL 1st year. Some made over $350k. I thought the hours were compatible with BL, but you have better PTO policy, 401k matching, etc.
A1, when I said $350k, I was talking about base salary without bonus. A fourth year BL only makes $350k if you get bonus. That is not guaranteed depending on where you are and your hours.
The sad thing about big 4 is, if you start as a junior, more than likely you will always be significantly behind on pay compared to big law associates. But if you join at a more senior level (manager and above) and you have big law experience, they would be willing to offer more money. That’s what I mean by “not necessarily a pay cut depending on your experience level.”
As someone who went from B4 to BL, I wouldn't recommend it in reverse. Made 5x my salary as a first year in BL and I left when I was about to be a manager in B4.
Busy seasons can be predictable in B4 IF you're staffed on only calendar YE companies. However, if the fiscal year end is not the calendar YE, you could be staffed on back-to-back busy seasons, which is what happened to me (the reward for good work, is more work, unfortunately). And at that pay, it certainly wasn't worth the effort.
Now, I will say, benefits were better and you could actually take your vacays and treat them as vacays. 401K matching, flexible work schedules, advanced schedule blocking so you weren't staffed during predictable periods of importance (anniversaries, kids breaks, etc.). That part, I do miss.

To the big 4 haters, my friends make mid-200s, so most people aren’t getting 5x pay bumps.

A4, my friend makes $245k as a manager and gets decent bonuses. Salaries eventually converge, especially because biglaw has higher involuntary attrition at more senior levels. Another person I know received an offer for $290k for a first year senior manager position in WNTS.

Don't do it. I did the opposite. You are going to just sit in Excel all day and get paid virtually nothing. Yes, there is work life balance but it does not make up for the lack and salary. You basically have to be a senior manager before you even make a first year big law salary.

For the love of god, don’t do it! If you were to take a pay cut, why not just go in-house / away from the client service industry. I did the reverse and vowed myself never to go back.
It's definitely a pay cut at most levels in B4. Depending on what group you go into and what office, it can be just as many hours and same stresses.
