Have an interview with BDO today. Can anyone advise what their busy seasons are like? I know they’ve been growing like crazy through acquisitions. Thanks!

With a firm growing by acquisitions it will vary by office. No one size fits all. Generally though regional firms won’t churn and burn their staff like the Big 4 because their pool of qualified applicants isn’t as deep. Like the Big 4 though larger markets will have higher demand for their spots and also larger client base so work more hours.

like

BDO isn’t a regional firm. They are probably the 5th or 6th largest in the world.

Each office is different. It’s something you should try to find out tactfully during the interview process.

i started at bdo about 4 months ago and so far it’s been awesome, doing 50 hour weeks
way better than ey so far

Update, I’ve accepted an offer at BDO Baltimore and will begin end of March.

It depends on whether you work in PCS or corporate tax, honestly. Corp (in my office) can’t get their stuff done on time. They work until 11:59 on deadline day when we’ve been at happy hour since 4. Part of that is we’ll increase our hours to 40 much earlier (in an effort to spread the work out more) but part of it is also you can only prepare the return after the audit has been done in Corp.

Rsm is hiring too in Baltimore tax! Might be worthwhile to check out other middle market firms in the area as well :) dm me if you have some questions!

So, I’m interviewing for a position that fits perfectly, HR likes my profile, had great conversations with them. Today I had a Panel interview with HR and the hiring manager. The manager is not experienced, it’s her first r manager role and she’s been in it for 3 months. I was prepared but was out of breath the entire interview, had a knot in my throat, had trouble finding my words. It’s like I had PTSD when this manager came into the picture. Ever had that?

I keep hearing that Booth’s MBA program is rigorous (maybe the most rigorous out of M7). That said, how much more work are students expected to do compared to HBS, Wharton, Kellogg, etc.? I don’t know if this is an outdated opinion, considering a lot of MBAs are very demanding. Booth is personally my top choice for having a flexible curriculum & 2-3 days of classes. But I really want to know what to expect around the “rigorous” label. Does it mean I’ll be buried in coursework the other 2-3 days?

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?
