Certainly. I start off by asking how they reached that decision, and then, (as long as I had proper documentation or I'm ready for the argument) I present my case. It hasn't always gone my way, but I felt better because I stood up for myself and what I believed in.

I did and it still didn’t end well. she was livid. Made it a point to talk anyone down from hiring me when the department was closing and we were all looking for new opportunities. I could see it on people’s faces as I attempted to network. I couldn’t believe it. I was young and naive and didn’t know how cut throat the finance industry could be.
I was on an upward trajectory and had incredible annual reviews. It was promising to say the least. But one year a new manager had it for me. I wasn’t sure why since we hardly interacted and I was her top performer. One year I contested my annual review and refused to sign it. I went over her head to her boss. Years later she muddied the waters and stopped me from moving to an AVP role and I was advised I wouldn’t be transitioning after all.
Problem I faced was she wanted me to take the fall for a process I knew nothing about but because it was technically a recon process she blamed me instead of owning that she didn’t assign or supervise the function.
I refused to take a newly developed role within her team and was given a severance package after 14 years of service right out of college. Pick your battles wisely.
