I’ve been trying to get into the top tier Associate Product Marketing Manager position Google for some time now for just an interview and I feel like business majors somehow have such a stronger chance in getting interviewed especially my business school and I feel really discouraged as an Econ Major and I have a lot of marketing experience that I’ve built over the years. Are there any non-business majors in the tech realm in non technical positions at Google that can advise me?

Hell, I've seen that with "non diversity" hires 🙄
Do you wake up angry or just feel like being a prick today
Absolutely. I'm sitting in a training right now with 3 guys that are captain, first mate, and chief engineer of the struggle bus
@accenture lol I totes agree with your smote of S&
At least they have some sort of leadership positions.
Maybe the "diversity" hire just slipped through the cracks like a white person as well? It's funny though, an underqualified minority is a "diversity hire" and an underqualified white person is "racism", but maybe, just maybe, it's just a glitch in the matrix and not that deep, fam.
"Totes"? ...Really? What's worse is you would have had to make a conscious effort to type that twice after the autocorrect threw that embarrassment to the side in sheer disgust. Surely we're at least a little better than "totes".
I've seen this happen more with partner referrals than diversity hires.
White woman is the true holy grail of diversity in tech consulting...
PwC1. Totes agree
Another reason why a diversity hire has to work twice as hard for a what a non-diversity hire can just breeze through. Smh. GTFOH....
Veterans are also considered Diversity hires and that transition can be challenging (I am a vet myself). Sometimes they just need the right coaching and can prove to be far more effective then some kid out of a top tier B school. Then again there are some who did slip through and should be canned immediately and I will be the first to admit it
P2 : agree with right coaching for veterans. But OP posted hinting that the diversity hire was not qualified to be in that position and was trying to see if it's common. Our firm has a lot of diversity . I interview people a lot and always interview benchmarks are same whether it's diversity , minority or majority etc.
If you're a white male in my practice, chances are you're the minority. All Asian and Indian (IT)
Haha very true, I was just curious if a stereotype existed that should be aware of!
I've seen unqualified minorities (especially females) getting promoted in my firm to meet the diversity quota.
@D4 so true. White girl here- had start group of 30- I was one of 2 white girls, there were only 3 white guys
Their ( white girls) knowledge in IT is also holy grail . But I would always include them in group whenever I have oppty.
