Hello all!

I am a 33 y/o single female that works in Louisiana for the state health dept. I really enjoy my job and the autonomy I have but am only making $55K/yr—however, I do not want to leave this job anytime soon due to being in the PSLF program. Negotiating pay with state government really isn’t a thing.

With all of this free time I have outside of my job that doesn’t bring much stress, I need help navigating a side hustle or remote job. (Continued in comments)

I have in the past but none of the local schools are in need right now. An online gig would be sweet! I’m searching

I have a master’s degree in cell biology, have taught community college, have previous administrative healthcare experience, and used to write medical white papers as a side hustle but got burnt out. Any and all feedback welcomed!

If your not on TikTok get on it and search for side hustle. Look for remote tutoring or teaching. There are ways to make money all kinds of ways.

like

TikTok and instagram overwhelm me 😂 Affiliate marketing, MLM, Amazon FBA, Fiverr, Etsy, Tshirt sells, digital courses, digital products, OVERLOAD! Lol. But Thankyou!

Haha so funny…..but don’t think I haven’t thought about it 🤣

I wonder if you could look into something healthcare related through GLG

like

You don’t need to be an engineer to be a relevant consultant. If you’re actually interested in pursuing this as a side gig, feel free to dm me. I work in the industry so I can share tips on how to make yourself the most relevant for these types of firms etc

like

I work in banking and the pay was less than what I wanted to make, but I had more freedom than others due to seniority so I picked up a side hustle during my free time at home in the evenings and weekend. It's not easy but I love it because I feel like I'm getting the best of both worlds.

like

What side hustle?

like

Not sure if this would work for your schedule and interests, but have you thought about tutoring? Where I live, that can pay very well as a side gig for someone smart / educated. However, it would probably be tough if you are in a more rural or poorer area.

like

Yeah, I’m in a rural area. I guess I could always give it a shot though

Babysitting but for pets $20/hour is not uncommon

like

I’d actually love that 😂

Absolutely sign up with expert networks - GLG, AlphaSights, Guidepoint, etc. Your experience sounds super valuable to clients who use those networks and you could probably charge $200+ per hour. It wouldn’t be a full on side hustle but would be a nice, periodic small payment.

like

If you have a VERY fuel efficient vehicle, Instacart and DoorDash are good side hustles. High gas prices will definitely cut into your profits though.

like

It’s officially $4/gallon here—that’s out of the question 😂. I’ve also decided to just find a regular full time job that compensates me appropriately. Government work has its perks, but I’m tired of just getting by when I don’t have to

like

Check upwork.com. A lot of project-based, part time contract roles for exactly this type of situation.

I have not personally used it but plan to once my schedule becomes a little more predictable.

I have in the past. Just not sure what I would provide as a service at this point.

I think your experience is great and super valuable. I would agree with the comment above. You could see if any local universities or colleges need adjunct professors to teach, you could provide tutoring for those in high school taking advanced biology classes, using platforms like Poshmark or Mercari are always a great second income if you have some things to get ride of as well. I have been doing Poshmark very part time, getting rid of things I do not need and my friend/ family bring me their things and average about $1,500 a month. Not a ton of money but it’s always nice to have a little extra!

Which companies offer good salaries for data engineers?

Hi Fishes,
Does IBM match the salary after accepting?
I have IBM offer of 18 LPA in hand (accepted)
And recently got a better offer 21 LPA in hand.

What should I do? Could you please suggest?

Would this be unethical to ask after accepting?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
