Hello fellow frequent fliers! Wife and I are stuck - we’re suppose to head to the UK in two weeks but have a feeling they might go back under restrictions / with so many cases we will likely catch covid and be there for extra time (test required to get back into the US) which wouldn’t be ideal so we’re brainstorming alternatives. What are your favorite places to visit within the US? For context we live in the South East so preferably somewhere besides here 😀

Restrictions in UK? Lol not one chance we have been open since last year full freedom!

Unless you require a pre departure test to fly back to your home country , you are as safe as you can be.

UK rules also state that you don’t have to self isolate even if you test positive so chill and enjoy your holiday

like

Do you require a negative PCR to enter back? Also if you have been vaccinated/boosted you should be fine. These restrictions will never go away!

I have travelled all over the world (even during times when covid was more present) last year and plan to do so this year with tests required and I never caught it

Live your life!

like

The uk didn’t lock down in the crazy omicron surge, so def won’t now. All restrictions are lifted

like

Pretty sure CDC/State dept will be reviewing the testing requirements at mid month. So you should have a better idea of any changes pretty soon.

Weather is great in California and you have a plethora of so many different landscapes & things to experience within that state - visit wine country, the beaches, beautiful forests/hiking trails/national parks.

like

I’m from the Pacific North West (wa state) and while it’s gorgeous in the summer and I 100% recommend it to everyone - I wouldn’t recommend visiting before late May/June, otherwise it could still be pretty dreary, rainy and cold

like

Getting covid out of the country and not being able to fly back is no joke - been there done that - avoid

helpful

Visit a national Park. Getting lodging in one might be difficult but people overbook and will cancel last minute. Yellowstone, Glacier, Yosemite, Olympic are all amazing. Or Lake Tahoe - Incline Village.

If you want a city trip equivalent to London you could go to New York or Los Angeles.

To this point, you can’t beat Washington or Oregon in the summer if you like hiking and the outdoors. Good beer and wine is also a bonus.

I feel like I’ve been neglecting this bowl. 😔 I’ve been doing keto with 16/8 intermittent fasting for the past month. By the time it hits my eating window, I’m starving and I don’t have time to make instagrammable meals. Like the one below 😄: Eggs and breakfast sausage with Spanish and Buttered cauliflower rice, and a salad. Not very exciting, I know. But what’s exciting is I dropped 15lbs!!! 😁

Any online services that diagnose adhd ? Based in the uk and the wait it weeks if not months.

Girlfriend has very obvious high functioning anxiety and body image issues that she admits but thinks she doesn’t need therapy or medication and that reading self-help books will help her. It’s not changing in the last several years and it’s impacting our relationship. Anyone have experience with their SO dealing with untreated anxiety? I know I can’t control her but would like to express my feelings without sending her into a spiral. For context, I’ve been in therapy for 12 months and medicated

What is one of the most frustrating parts of being a scientist or researcher?

I'll tell you what it is: referencing!

You have to do so much of it, and it's so annoying. You have to cite your sources, but there are so many different formats for citations! And then sometimes you don't even know how to cite something, and how are you supposed to know that unless you ask someone who knows? And even then, they might not be sure whether it should be an in-text citation or a footnote…

I currently work as an APM at a FAANG company but recently received an offer to join an MBB. I’m very excited about the role but didn’t realize I’d need to take a pay cut when I applied (~100k base + ~20k bonus + ~60k equity vs. 90k base + 10-20k bonus). Considering that I currently work 40-60 hours/week, I’ll be making significantly less per hour at the MBB. I’m very interested in the opportunity but also don’t want to make a poor financial decision early in my career. Thank you for your time!
