Have you used LinkedIn to look for new roles? My current job I found there, and it's a very goo one, so perhaps you can find good opportunities there!
Did you by any chance make any strong connections at your last job? Perhaps networking is the way to go, I'd say reach out to your close ex-colleagues and ask what and who they know!
Would you be willing to relocate? I don't know much about Canada but I know there are some cities in Europe that have booming engineering industries, maybe you could try looking for international opportunities!
