Without knowing much about your offer etc. I would advise you to leave, in case you don’t like it there you could always boomerang back. IMHO WLB and mental well being are very important. And this entire point about SM level being a game changer sounds like BS to me (FWIW I am an SM).
I agree ☝️ I am an SM too it’s BS to think being SM is a game changer

If you want WLB as a primary driver for your job you answered your own question. SM is a great job but don’t expect it to let up any time soon.
B2, very insightful indeed. Just wondering if a SM1 would be able to command higher comp than a M2/3.
Deloitte SM here. Leave. 6 months mean nothing
Leave. Telling from experience. Exit offers at SM level take a long time to come by. Speaking from experience. Levels mean shit in the tech industry

This.
I know a few SMs who struggled to get high level roles or even interviews. (Tech industry)
Most companies look at YOE vs title, you’ll be fine.
P.S: This is an exit opportunity btw and no SM title
I think the highest an SM has gotten coming into Google was L6 and that was definitely a stretch so coming in you’re probably looking at L5 so you getting SM or not doesn’t matter.
Also, your partner is incentivized to get you to stay so he doesn’t have to replace you. If you’re a good resource he won’t want to lose you. I take whatever a partner tells me with a heavy grain of salt because I’ve seen them time and time again tell you whatever is convenient to get their needs met.
Take the offer and if you truly miss D (you won’t) boomerang back as an SM with a comp increase. I assure you they will take you

When is your promotion due? Dec 31? If so, you should delay your start date enough to resign as an SM. If it is months away, then just leave.
What’s your current and future TC?

@M1 I think OP should still leave, but they need to negotiate the job offer or should look again if the requisites I mentioned were true (YOE, HCOL, S&O). For an M3 level or our equivalent of PL2/P1 they should be getting way more (even with a perceived difference in big4 vs MBB). 300k+ jobs are plenty I’m HCOL even in biz roles especially if you have substantial experience managing teams which you would at M3.
If it’s 250 in Atlanta/Austin/Nashville type places then it’s fantastic. Location matters. 250+ jobs are unfortunately a dime a dozen in HCOL (SF/NYC).
OP should not end up with a 250k job 2-3 years down the line unless something has gone horribly wrong, if they can tough it out and land the right exit 400k-500k is certainly well within reach. However exiting at that level becomes harder.
If the role is something you are interested in LEAVE. I have actually heard exit opps at the SM level can be harder (except maybe for some account / solutions roles but if you are about to be promoted sounds like you already have the experience). Start building out your tech experience.
You can always come back to Deloitte.
