HCB layoffs on the horizon
Hi fishes,
Any guess how many people are laid off from Publicis sapient in past few days? Really scared for my future as I'm also under probation period and deeply regret for my choice of joining this firm...I don't understand why were they recruiting peeps when they were short of projects. Publicis Sapient

If I knew you and knew you were partially being a writer when you were a planner ... maybe.
I’m all for growth and change, but it bothers me a little when people think they can just pick up the mantle of another role like that role doesn’t have its own very significant requirements.
Example: I can explain strategy better than half the planners I’ve worked with in my career, but that does not make me a planner. And anyone would be rightly skeptical of me, if I put my name forward for that role.
... are you a copywriter? No? No.
Super good > super cheap
If I were you I’d figure out how to demonstrate you’re super good, not super cheap
I think it would help if you made a book with some spec work
Thanks, ACD2. That’s helpful. (Sincerely)
One of the best writers I’ve worked alongside was a former Group Account Director who turned down a massive promotion to write his own spec portfolio and start over. Got hired as a junior writer at W+K and is now an ecd.
Another great writer I crossed paths with used to be an Account Sup at Goodby who did a similar reset.
One of the best account execs I’ve known reset and started over as a junior planner.
All needed someone to give them the opportunity, so it’s def possible.
If you’re willing to start over, and you have a path to do so, best of luck. You absolutely need a spec portfolio and you should regard your time as a planner as good experience that will only partially translate forward.
Like all writers I hire, I would expect you to have a good portfolio. I can’t take your word that you know how to write, any more than I could take the word of an actual copywriter, without proof
CD - totally fair. Not really trying to jump in at your level. I think 15 years as a planner makes me as qualified to write as a kid who is fresh out of portfolio school. I have done some writing here and there but I do have a degree in journalism and have taken a couple of writing classes since then.
And you must either work with some shitty planners or just have no idea what a planner does.
No. I'm not looking for super cheap plannerfestos.
I would. People can change into new roles
take the opportunity to put a portfolio together
Not trying to write manifestos. Actually most planners I know hate them. But sure.
