So wanted to pass a long this good news. I’m aware this is a touchy subject and backlash might come from this but I am doing what is best for me and I wanted to share to others who may experience the same struggles
Congrats on the offer! Would love to know what type of accommodations you asked for, if you don’t mind sharing.
I can’t imagine any backlash. Everyone here should be happy for you. I don’t expect this could work out well for me. But I’m glad it did for you and appreciate anyone brave enough to forge the path of lowering the stigma. What accommodations did you ask for?
My diagnosis is just too new and I don’t know what I’d even ask for that doesn’t make me sound like a bad employee. eg I used to tell people that I’m really good…but I’m not fast. Now I know that it’s several ADHD symptoms that make me less able breeze through a high volume of tasks or get started on seemingly simple (for others) tasks. IMHO this is far less important than the things I’m great at. But I feel like admitting it’s an inherent part of a condition either makes me look “broken” OR makes me sound like I’m making excuses. What could I ask for?
And honestly, I keep coming back to the reality that I no longer WANT to change. I just want to be who I am without somebody forcing expected strategies on me. I want people to accept that I’m great at what I’m great at and not great at other things. I want people to just accept that we are all allowed to be different and not be constantly pushed to be someone different. Crazy?
Would be interested to hear more about this! Congrats!
That’s great! Congrats
I love this! Congratulations to you!
Congratulations! I’m so happy for you.
Thank you for sharing this and I find it truly uplifting and encouraging as a fellow neurodivergent human. Thank you for being so brave and resilient! I would benefit from learning more from you.
