Hi all! I’m lateraling and 6 months pregnant. I got 2 offers and disclosed the pregnancy post-offer. Both firms have a waiting period requirement before being eligible for maternity leave. The firm I prefer has a 3-month wait period which I might barely make, depending on the starting date. I know firms can make exceptions to their wait period policy. Anyone has experience with that?

Yes, if they like you enough and are willing to support your pregnancy, they will make an exception and grant you some form of paid leave. I negotiated one law firm offer that made an exception, offering 4 months paid. Another law firm offered nothing. What I learned from my experience is that their willingness to make an exception is an indicator of either their willingness/ability to to be supportive of women with young children when you return. They can’t rescind your offer but they can discourage you from accepting by giving you nothing you ask for. If they cannot give you paid leave for policy reasons, ask for an increase in sign-on bonus. I think the way to sound reasonable is you need to leverage one offer against the other (e.g., “This firm is offering me x. Can you match? If not, can you do y.”)

Agree with all this. Good luck OP!

Just provide an alternative. I got my offer while I was 7 months pregnant. I really wanted to take my mat leave at my old firm, which provided very generous leave. Had a try to ask the new firm to wait and they said yes.

One consideration you might not be aware of. When I switched firms, my new extended disability policy had a 1 year waiting period for any preexisting conditions. Since disability is often used to cover portions of maternity leave, you may need to factor this in.

Thank you! Very helpful!

How did you disclose your pregnancy? Getting close to the offer stage and it’s starting to really stress me out.

Hello fishes, I have offers from two different companies and both are offering same amount of CTC - 18LPA (YOE: 3.2) . Company names are Pristyn Care and Xiaomi technology india pvt. ltd .

Now for Pristyn Care I won't have to move out of Gurgaon (I'm from north India). Xiaomi is calling me to Bangalore. Rest all the benefits seem similar.

In terms of learning and job security and all the aspects considered, which company should I join?

Please help me decide. Thank you!

What do you think about the mismatch of labor and employment laws and the modern nature of our economy after the technological boom? Am I the only one who thinks (and am I crazy to think) there are some benefits to workers from the gig economy, and it might be best long term to pass new employment laws to ensure worker protections while maintaining these benefits instead of trying to shove the current gig economy back into the 1960s? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I never do this but I need some objective advice. My wife is 5mo pregnant and my sister is getting married. Wedding was adjusted because of COVID but she set the date knowing I might not be able to attend as I’d have to fly there. Now I’m conflicted because if I attend, I’d have to quarantine for 2 weeks away from my wife and miss a couple DR appts. I’m her only support where we live. Would be stressful for her but I’m getting immense pressure from my parents to attend the wedding. Advice?

Hello,

Long time fishbowl lurker, first time poster.

I work in Healthcare consulting (8 yoe). I'm incredibly passionate about Healthcare and have thought a lot about how to make meaningful changes that keep people healthy and how it can be affordable and accessible to all. I know Google has been operating in the Healthcare market. Anyone here open to connect so I can learn more about its current activities/future plans? I'd like to see if there's a role that I'd be a good fit for.

Thank you!

Hoping to get my PHR in the next year or so. Outside of employer reimbursement, are there other opportunities for this to get funded? I know SHRM Foundation offers scholarships for the CP, but I am looking for PHR specific help. Thank you! :)

Anyone here have any information on where to invest your money apart from the firm's 401k match? New to investing and wanted to know where do other people invest since most of them wouldn't be investing in stocks directly.

Good morning!

Still trying to figure out this whole Fishbowl thing, so here goes my first post.

I would love to get into provider credentialing, but all employers I've looked at want at least 3 years of experience. So, I'm looking at Provider Network Coordinator roles, because I'm finding some of those roles don't need AS MUCH experience. I'm a RHIT, and have been working in healthcare for nearly 10 years.

Any input on employers is appreciated!

I have an interview for an in house position (only attorney) at a small non-profit focused on conservation easements. I am a transactional associate at a mid sized law firm. The prospect of freedom from the billable hour and contributing to meaningful work are the draws. The cons are that while the salary at the non-profit would only be slightly less than what I am making now, pay increases and opportunities for advancement will be much less than where I am now. Thoughts on making the shift?

NFW- I just had a good laugh. Earlier today I was on a video conference call reviewing a Private Label Agreement template with a larger company who wishes to brand label products we develop and manufacture. We came to a very one-sided provision and my sales VP stated “for this one, how can we just say ‘hell no’ ...nicely?” The other person on the call said we can replace the wording with just NFW (no f@$* way) and I said “I will have to add that to the defined terms section so it’s clear”
