Hi ECEB associates — has anyone here done a 1–2 year stint in a foreign office? I'm curious about the transition and would appreciate any advice on how to approach that topic with leadership or "lessons learned" you might be willing to share.

OP - why is this being asked of ECEB attorneys specifically? I think that’s why you’re getting the responses you don’t like.

As a clarification, I clearly know that ECEB is US focused, so responses like (1) are not helpful.
My partner would like to do a 2 years masters in London. I’m interested in the experience of those who have managed it (even if you were just doing your US-based work in a different time zone). Any insight would be great!

It’s unrealistic to do it at most firms. Are you at White & Case or another firm with a global footprint? That’s the only way I see this being remotely possible. I knew someone in finance who went to Germany for two years.

Also, how senior are you? If you’re below like 6-7 years in, I think it’s even less likely.

I’m interested in pursuing cosmetic dermatology (possible Botox and laser treatment) for the first time. I’ve done a ton of research and the derm I’m most interested in going to charges a $150 consult fee but does NOT apply that cost to any treatments you get, whereas from my research it seems like derms in my city usually do apply the consult fee to the treatments. Would you pass on her due to that additional cost, or consider it worth it to see the derm you want to see?

Any Atomic Habit readers here? I’m brainstorming identity-based habits for two things I want to change:

-I want to bill more hours, so my goal is to become the type of person who bills at least 8 a day
-I want to drink less alcohol, so my goal is to become the type of person who drinks occasionally

Neither of these feel that helpful. Any one have suggestions for other identity-based goals that get at these changes I want to make?
